Historical Note

The first Methodist meetings in Laramie, Wyoming, were held in 1868. The Methodist Episcopal Church was established in March of 1869, with G.F. Hilton as pastor, and the first church building was completed in December, 1870. The church moved to a new building in 1905 and again in 1968. Its distinctive sanctuary building was dedicated in 1968. The church's Wesley Foundation was organized in 1921-1922 to serve University of Wyoming students.

In 1968, the National Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren to form the United Methodist Church and the local church was renamed the First United Methodist Church of Laramie.
