Biographical NoteReturn to Top

The public school at Jeffers, Montana started in a building specifically dedicated for that purpose in 1867. In 1874 the school became designated as District 14 by the Madison County school superintendent. District 14 ended sometime after 1913 and area students now attend the school in Ennis located a mile east across the Madison River.

Acquisition Information

Original record books maintained by Madison County, Montana schools were photocopied by Susie Davis of Ennis, Montana and given to Montana State University sometime around 1975. Davis subsequently turned the originals over to the Madison County Superintendent of Public Instruction and their present status is unknown.
