Historical Note
Robert L. Gale was a professor of American Literature at the University of Pittsburgh. Though his academic focus had been on 19th century American Literature, he later developed a specialty in Western American Literature. His numerous published books and booklets included writings on American authors Louis L'Amour, Will Henry, and Matt Braun.
Content Description
The collection contains correspondence of Robert Gale with Will Henry, Matt Braun, Edna La Moore Waldo (sister of Louis L'Amour), and Mrs. Ernest Haycox. Also included are the original typescript and the setting copy of Will Henry's novel "I, Tom Horn", as well as a draft screenplay written by Will Henry based on the novel. .
