The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Memorial Collection is an artificial collection of eulogies, memorial programs, articles, photographs, VHS tapes, and other forms of remembrance and tribute produced in the wake of Maureen and Mike Mansfield’s deaths. Maureen Mansfield died on September 20, 2000, and Mike Mansfield died a year later on October 5, 2001.

The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Memorial Collection is an artificial collection of eulogies, memorial programs, articles, photographs, VHS tapes, and other forms of remembrance produced in the wake of Maureen and Mike Mansfield’s deaths in 2000 and 2001 respectively. At 97 years old, Mike Mansfield gave the eulogy for his wife Maureen. When the statesman himself died a year later, tributes poured in from around the world. Both Maureen and Mike are buried in Washington, D.C.

This collection is arranged by the medium of the remembrance.

Custodial History

Most of the items in this collection were collected by or sent to the Dean of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library, Frank D’Andraia. Other items were collected by the Mansfield Center and transferred to Archives and Special Collections subsequently.

Acquisition Information

The Mansfield Library received the items in this collection at different times between the years of 2000 and 2002.

Processing Note

Duplicate copies of programs and other printed material were not retained.

In 2025, all VHS tapes were digitized for preservation purposes and duplicate tapes were not retained.
