Historical Note

The Central Washington University Retirement Association (CWURA) was founded in 1990 “to facilitate the mission and goals of the University and provide for continuing professional, educational and social activities of retired University personnel.” Membership in the organization requires that a person must be a retiree of Central Washington University (or its predecessors), a former Board of Trustees member, or friends interested in furthering the goals of CWURA. CWURA began the living history project in 1995, and continues to add oral histories of retired faculty and staff.

Content Description

This collection features interviews with Central Washington University alumni and Board of Trustees members. Also included are some written reminiscences and other textual materials. This is an open collection and new interviews will continue to be added to the collection. The interviews generally answer the same set of questions concerning the interviewees’ background, education and then their experiences at Central. The questions include their experiences in their respective departments, questions concerning “town/gown” relations, relations between administration and faculty, academic freedom and any memorable experiences.
