Historical Note

In 1975, an Ad Hoc Campus Recreation Study Committee was created to assess the quality of the current Campus Recreation Program and to determine its futher needs. In response to the committee's recommendations, the administrative control of the Campus Recreation Department was transferred from the College of Health to the Vice President for Student Affairs in 1976. The goal of Campus Recreation was to provide programs and facilities to meet the exercise, physical fitness, and recreation needs of University students, faculty, and staff. It fulfilled its mission by operating the Informal Program which provided the use of recreational facilities and equipment on an individual basis; the Intramural Program which organized individual and team competitions in various types of sports; and the Outdoor Program which rented outdoor equipment as well as organized and conducted outdoor trips and adventures. Campus Recreation also operated the University Golf Course, the Einar Nielsen Fieldhouse, and the HPER facility.
