M. Lynn Bennion papers, 1889-1982

M. Lynn Bennion (b. 1902) and his father, Milton Bennion (1870-1953), are both noted for their contribution to educational studies both in Utah and nation-wide. Milton Bennion served as chairman of the National Council on Character Education for the National Education Association from 1921-1925. He was appointed Professor of Philsophy at the University of Utah in 1904 and later became the Dean of the School of Education from 1913-1941. He also served on the General Sunday School Board of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) for forty years. His son, M. Lynn Bennion received his Ed.D in 1936 from the University of California, Berkeley. He was Supervisor of LDS Church Seminaries from 1935-1945 and after became the Superintendent of the Salt Lake City School District until 1969. From then he was the Executive Secretary for the Society of Utah School Superintendents until 1981.
