Biographical Note
Medical researcher and professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington.
Robert F. Rushmer was born in Ogden, Utah in 1914. He received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Chicago. Rushmer joined the University of Washington faculty in 1947 with expertise in aviation medicine. During his tenure at the university, he explored several other research interests, including cardiovascular physiology, pediatric cardiology, health care delivery systems and technology transfer. Rushmer founded the bioengineering division of the engineering school in which later became the Center for Bioengineering and served as its first director, 1967-1975.
