Historical NoteReturn to Top

Leon Laizer Watters was a writer, businessman, and scientist. He was born on 13 November 1877 in Salt Lake City to Ichel and Augusta Graupe Watters. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1897 and received a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Watters perfected a way to properly sterilize catgut used in sutures, designed the first portable steam disinfector for the Army, founded several businesses, and served as treasurer of the Young Men's Hebrew Association of New York. He died in 1967.
