The Sydney W. and Mildred B. Angleman papers (1895-1981) contains correspondence, lectures, speeches, fiction, and poetry, including poetry written by Sydney Angleman's mother, Erene E. Angleman. Also include is an original manuscript of "The Constable of St. Nicholas," by Edwin Lester Arnold, and Sydney Angleman's dissertation, "The study of Matthew Arnold's poetry." Some original correspondence have been removed and placed in Reserve. Access must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the items if being used. Photocopies are available in the collection for research use.

Content Description

The Sydney W. and Mildred B. Angleman papers contain original manuscripts from Sydney B. Angleman (1902-1971), his wife, Mildred B. Angleman (1897-1981), and his mother, Erene E. Angleman (1876-1867). Dr. Angleman was a professor of general education at the University of Utah from 1939 to 1970. The collection contains his university correspondence, as well as lectures, speeches, fiction, and poetry. It also contains poetry, short stories, and correspondence from Mildred B. Angleman. Erene E. Angleman, Sydney's mother, was an accomplished poet, and many of her poems are in the collection. Also included is an original manuscript of "The Constable of St. Nicholas," by Edwin Lester Arnold, and a manuscript of Sydney B. Angleman's dissertation, "The Study of Matthew Arnold's Poetry." The collection also contains Sydney and Mildred's son, Winfield S. Angleman's school and personal papers.

Historical Note

Sydney W. Angleman is professor emeritus of English at the University of Utah. Angleman had taught at Utah from 1927 until his retirement in 1970. He died in 1971.
