Historical Note
Produced in a brief space of time during late 1927 and early 1928, “The Crown Jewels” was an amateur silent motion picture made with cast members drawn from Spokane’s high society. The University Club Photoplayers were directed by Frank R. Davies in a nearly two-hour murder mystery thriller. The company secured the enthusiasm and cooperation of the Police Department and many city and private offices for sets, costumes, and personnel. A local jewelry store provided real jewels, and the Northern Pacific even put an entire train at the disposal of the company for two hours.
