Historical Note
G. Edward Pendray was a University of Wyoming graduate and editor of The Branding Iron student newspaper during his college education in the 1920s. After graduating, Pendray worked for the New York Herald Tribune as reporter and science editor and for Westinghouse Electric. In 1930, he founded the American Rocket Society which became a group of rocket engineers who pioneered rocket construction before the establishment of NASA. Pendray is known most of all for his novel writings on space flight in a time when air travel was still new and developing. Differing with the naysayers, Pendray defended the possibilities of rocket travel and predicted humankind’s successful journey to space.
