Alvin βAlβ Edmund Ulbrickson Jr. (October 10, 1930 β July 6, 2012) was a public administrator and rower who represented the United States in the 1952 Summer Olympics. He was born in Laurelhurst, Seattle, Washington, to Alvin M. and Hazel C. Ulbrickson. His father was a famous rowing coach for the University of Washington. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948 and then from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1952 where he was part of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. He later finished a Masters in Public Administration. The same year he graduated with his B.S. he participated in the Summer Olympics as a rowing crew member and won the bronze medal for the coxed fours event. Alvin joined the army for two years before acting as Assistant Dean of Men and later as the Vice President of Student Affairs at the University of Washington. He then went on to become the Executive Director of the South Snohomish County (Lynnwood) Chamber of Commerce. He engaged in community service with Kiwanis, Seattle Junior Crew and Community Services for the Blind. The Green Lake Crew dedicated a shell in his name for promoting and improving the Junior Crew Rowing program. Alvin was based on Orcas Island 15 years prior to his death from lung cancer in 2012 and was survived by his wife Monica and two children, a son and a daughter.
