Historical Note

The National Petroleum Refiners Association (NPRA) was an American trade association organized in 1902 as the National Petroleum Association (NPA). The Western Petroleum Refiners Association (WPRA) was created in 1912, merging with the Texas Petroleum Refiners Association in 1920 and with the Arkansas-Louisiana Refiners Association in 1936. The NPA and WPRA, which had worked together over the years, merged in 1961 to become the National Petroleum Refiners Association. In 1998, the group became the National Petrochemicals and Refiners Association and, in 2012, the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers.
