- The Race in the City of Destiny: Oral Histories of Tacoma originated at the University of Puget Sound with Professor Andrew Gomez and his students conducting interviews related to the Northwest Detention Center. With the support of the Whiting Foundation, the project was later expanded to a broader oral history project on the history of race in Tacoma that also included a series of public events on the topic. Project materials include two flash drives containing interview materials for specific individuals, including a release form, the oral interview, interview materials, and a photograph of the interviewee.

Two flash drives, one SanDisk 64gb flash drive and one EMTEC 64gb flash drive, containing interviews for the Race in the City of Destiny: Oral Histories of Tacoma project. The flash drives each contain three folders labeled Chinese-American Tacoma (Tacoma Method), Hilltop, and Northwest Detention Center (NWDC). Each folder contains interview materials for specific individuals, including a release form, the oral interview, interview materials, and a photograph of the interviewee. Physical copies of release forms are also included in the materials. The majority of the files are duplicated on both drives, but the EMTEC drive has five additional interviews. Below is an inventory of each drive.
SanDisk 64GB flash drive:
Chinese-American Tacoma: Bill Evans, Chevi Chung, Gail Yu, Greg Youtz, Lihuang Wung, Lotus Perry, Suzanne Barnett, and Theresa Pan-Hosley.
Hilltop: Antonio Edwards Jr., Elizabeth Diffendal, Fletcher Jenkins, Harlan Shoop, Jackie Jones-Hook, Kay Littles, Larry Norman, Mario Lorenz, Mushawn Knowles, and Willie Stewart.
Northwest Detention Center: Aliah McCord, Amanda Diaz, Megan Ybarra, and Robert and Margaret Isenberg.
EMTEC 64GB flash drive:

The Race in the City of Destiny: Oral Histories of Tacoma originated at the University of Puget Sound with Professor Andrew Gomez and his students conducting interviews related to the Northwest Detention Center. With the support of the Whiting Foundation, the project was later expanded to a broader oral history project on the history of race in Tacoma that also included a series of public events on the topic. The majority of the interviews were collected between 2019-2021, with many of the later sessions conducted remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
