Historical Note
Martin Olson (b. 1880) came to Wyoming from his native Norway in 1898. He worked in lumber camps in southern Wyoming and was employed by the Wyoming Tie & Timber Company in Riverton and Dubois, Wyoming, from 1916 to 1947. He served as a Fremont (Wyoming) County commissioner from 1954 to 1960.

Description: Correspondence
Includes letters to Olson, letters to and from Ricker Van Metre, who was president of the Wyoming Tie and Timber Company, and letters from E.L. Miller, a forest supervisor at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and F. Alton Wade, a professor in the Geology Department at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) regarding the use of the DuNoir site in Wyoming as a geological field camp. Also includes “proposed division of assets and liabilities between company and buyer” for Du Noir Mercantile Company, an “extract from address of welcome to the Railway Tie Association” by E.S. Pennebaker, manager at the Texas Pacific-Missouri Pacific Terminal Railroad of New Orleans, and a balance sheet for Wyoming Tie & Timber Company.
