Historical Note

Dorothy Jacobs Buchanan was born on 27 October 1905 to Alberta Larsen and Henry Chariton Jacobs Jr. The family moved from their home in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, to Mt. Pleasant, Utah, where Dorothy attended school. She received her B.A. in English from Brigham Young University and taught English and journalism at Richfield High School. She married Robert Dell Buchanan in 1930; together, the couple had two children. Dorothy, a poet, organized the Richfield chapter of the League of Utah Writers, served on the board for the public library, and was active in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints auxiliaries. She died in Salt Lake City on 18 September 1997.
