Historical NoteReturn to Top

A. Fred Watts was born September 28, 1884 to Morris and Anna Watts near Norton, Kansas. When he was fourteen years old, he and his family moved to Payette, Idaho. Little is known from his time spent in Idaho, but at some point Watts traveled back east and attended medical school at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

In 1916, Watts received his diploma. During World War I he served as a medic at Fort Riley, Kansas. Additionally, he was a medical professional within the span of 1918 Flu Pandemic. After the war he settled in Creston, Iowa. Here he served as the Creston City Health physician for more than 30 years, retiring in 1966. A. Fred Watts died in 1970.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

This postcard collection was kept by A. Fred Watts. The postcards were originally located in what appeared to be a scrapbook. The scrapbook was in very poor condition, and so the most of postcards were removed for preservation. A few couldn't be removed from the paper they were glued to. Many of the images on the postcards are from Idaho, Kansas, and Iowa. Some have stamps as well as writing on the back of them. There are a few postcards which depict people who are unidentified.
