Historical Note

Russell D. Lamb (1929–2009) was an American photographer known for his landscape and nature photography. He studied at the Famous Photographers School in New York, where he trained under prominent photographers such as Richard Avedon, Joseph Costa, Arthur d’Arazien, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Philippe Halsman, Irving Penn, Bert Stern, and Ezra Stoller. Over a career that spanned more than thirty years, Lamb received awards of excellence from Victor Hasselblad and Linhof Technika. His work appeared in a variety of national publications including Sunset Magazine, TimeLife books, Popular Photography, Modern Maturity, and Condé Nast publications, and was also featured by organizations such as the Sierra Club and National Wildlife. In addition to his editorial work, Lamb authored several photography books, including Wyoming (Volumes One and Two), published by Graphic Arts Books.

Content Description

This collection contains a portfolio of photographic images captured by Russell D. Lamb spanning a time of forty years, starting in the 1960s. Included are color transparencies, color slides, negatives, and signed copies of both volume one and two of his book Wyoming. The photographic transparencies contain images of the landscape and peoples of Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
