Historical Note
James Kenneth Brooke (1900-1968), a geologist and mining engineer, spent the early part of his career in Mexico and South America. He was an engineer for the Mexican Mining Department of American Smelting and Refining Company in Peru (1925-1929), an assistant manager for Inca Mining and Development Company in Peru (1930-1933), underground foreman for Kennecott's Braden Copper Company in Chile (1933-1936), and mine superintendent for St. Joseph Lead's Cia. Minera Aguilar in Argentina (1936-1937). He returned to the United States to work as mine superintendent for the Chelan Division of Howe Sound Company in Washington (1937-1946), a partner in Pacific Drilling Company in Oregon (1946-1950), an administrative engineer for Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation in California (1951-1961) and a vice president of Western Mining Associates in California (1961-1965). Brooke operated a consulting firm, J. Kenneth Brooke Associates, Palo Alto, California, from 1966 until his death in 1968.
