Historical Note

The University of Wyoming, College of Health Sciences was formed in 1968, combining the School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, the divisions of Medical Technology, Pre-medical, and Pre-dental studies, and later, the special program in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Today, the program also includes practicum opportunities at facilities in Cheyenne and Casper. From 1918-1931, the University of Wyoming offered basic science courses for nurse trainees at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Wyoming. In 1940, speech correction coursework began with its first bachelor’s degree awarded in 1952. Under Dean David W. O' Day, the School of Pharmacy was established in 1946. In 1951, the School of Nursing was created.
