Historical Note
Paul Carpino is from Helena, Montana and a native of Hartford, Connecticut. Carpino spent most of his life working on social justice projects in Montana. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he completed high school in Hartford and graduated from the University of Montana with a B.A. in social work in 1954.
Carpino is an avid cross country and downhill skier, photographer, backpacker, and runner.
Content Description
The Paul Carpino Papers (1973-2020) consist primarily of materials related to the grassroots movement of people against the MX missile proposed in the Great Basin region. Arranged by subject, the established movements include the Great Basin MX Alliance, The National Campaign to Stop the MX, Western Action, MX Roadshows, Run for Peace, and Ranchers for Peace. Included in these efforts are correspondence, agendas, press releases, newsletters, notes, printed and informational materials. The bulk of the papers consist of photocopies and clippings of articles related to the MX missile. The photocopies and clippings of articles are arranged by state: Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Articles from other publications are arranged chronologically under the subject MX (Weapons system).
