Centennial Planning Council records , 1946-1982, bulk 1961-1977

The Centennial Planning Council collection documents the preparations that went into the University of Oregon's Centennial celebrations held in conjunction with the United States Bicentennial celebrations in 1976. Planning for the Centennial began in the 1960's because there was some debate about what year to celebrate it, as the University was established in 1872, but instruction did not begin until 1876.

The materials detail the proceedings of various committees and subcommittees involved, such as the Bicentennial Commission, the Committeee on Education, the Academic Occassions Committee, the Subcommittee for Campus Planning, and the Program Review Committtee. It also documents the involvement of ASUO in committee meetings and Centennial projects, such as the 100 Years 100 Trees planting project and the Oral Hisotry project.

The materials are administrative in nature and include planning documents such as meeting minutes, correspondence, project plans and proposals, forms, reports, budgets, schedules, agendas, calendars, speeches, conferences, lectures, publicity segments, historical information about the university, pamphlets and flyers from other organizations' events for inspiration, and vendor information. Also included is information on the different committee members. The planning documents span 1961-1977, while other records such as historical information used in planning and post-Centennial records span 1946-1982.
