It was the early 1940s, and like most of America, muck of daily life revolved around the war effort. Streetcars bustled people downtown to shop at large, elegant department stores like Auerbach's. The city was brimming with dance halls and grand movie houses. Everyone took the train to Saltair and Lagoon. It was a time when men wore hats, cars had running boards, and everyone dressed up to go downtown.
