Historical Note
Luther G. Jerstad was an American mountaineer and scholar of Tibetan drama. Jerstad was a member of the 1963 American expedition to Mount Everest, which was the first successful American attempt to reach the top. Jerstad arrived on the summit by the South Col route.
Content Description
The collection contains field notes, news clippings, and tape recordings of the 1963 American Mount Everest Expedition. Also included are manuscripts and printed material about Jerstad's climbing career in Alaska and Canada; Mount Everest; and Tibetan drama.
