Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Geology Department began at the University of Wyoming in 1887. The summer science camp was instituted in 1925. In 1933 the State Geologist position was added to the Geology department and the first Ph. D. graduated from the department in 1953. The department worked with the state to find more efficient means to produce Wyoming’s natural resources.
