Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Gladys Bowman Knight, daughter of Earl Wayland and Elva Eldor (Moss) Bowman was born near Rich Hill, Missouri in February of 1899. She was later joined by two sisters and a brother. In 1901 the family moved to Idaho.

She grew up in Idaho attending schools at Council and Boise. After studying voice at Gooding College, Gladys Bowman Knight went to California where she continued her studies in voice. For several years she sang regularly on radio stations in the Los Angeles area.

She later married Leonard Randall Knight, a resident of Council and childhood sweetheart. He died in 1947. They had no children.

Mrs. Knight settled in Council, Idaho and wrote several booklets about her father. She had been a long time supporter of the Republican Party and maintained an active interest in local politics as well as community affairs. Mrs. Knight's letters to the editor were frequently seen in the Idaho Statesman. She died in 1983.

Boise State University has the papers of Earl Wayland Bowman (MSS 4), the father of Gladys Bowman Knight. Many of the papers in this collection concern Gladys' recollections of her father and her dedication to preserving his memory.
