Grant William Sharpe (1925-2006) was a professor, ranger-naturalist, and US Navy Veteran in the Pacific Northwest whose work and scholarship focused on interpretation in National Parks and park management. In 1948, he married Weononah Finch Sharpe, who also collaborated with him on scholarship pertaining to forestry, environmental interpretation, and park management. He attended the University of Washginton and majored in Outdoor Recreation through the College of Forestry, before earning his Ph.D. in the college in 1955. From then through 1967, Sharpe served as a professor at the University of Michigan and a seasonal ranger-naturalist during the summers at Glacier, Olympic, Shenandoah, Crater Lake, Acadia, and Mount Rainier National Parks. Returning to Seattle, Sharpe served as a professor at the University of Washington College of Forestry from 1967to his retirement in 1990. He created and taught International Short Courses for managers of National Parks, Forests, and Equivalent Reserves with support from the National Park Service throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Additionally, he was a Golden Member of the Society of American Foresters and served as Commander of the Posession Sound Power Squadron in 1988.
