Biographical Note
A native of Japan, Masashi Kamimura taught classes while earning his Master of Fine Arts degree in film at the University of Utah. He was chosen to direct the independent film The Speed of Life (2010) after the producers saw his student film, "Brother Japan Sister US."

Description: Student films and outtakes by Masashi Kamimura
DVDcolor, sound1. "Jewel In The Desert," a brief documentary is about central Utah's Topaz War Relocation Center, a Japanese internment camp during World War II. The piece consists of interviews with former interns as well as shots of the camp's site today. The documentary also features WWII-era photographs of the camp. 11:00.
2. "A Chapter of Quiet Fire," a narrative short originally produced on color 16mm film about an old Japanese-American man whose wife is dying. The husband reads to his wife as she lies, deathly ill, in her bed. At the end of the piece, the woman quietly passes away as her husband reads to her.
3. "Brother Japan Sister US," a full-length story of a young Japanese-American man and his attempts to reach out to his younger sister. The film deals with themes of cultural identity and family acceptance. It was shot in and around Salt Lake City. 65:00.
4. "Brother Japan Sister US" outtakes: humorous mistakes and outtakes recorded during the shooting of Kamimura's "Brother Japan Sister US." 4:00.
