Historical Note

The 116th Air Refueling Squadron (116 ARS) is a unit of the Washington Air National Guard and was established in Spokane, WA after World War I. Their headquarters are in the Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. The 116th squadron is reputed to be the best equipped and organized air photo unit in the western United States and took thousands of aerial photographs for the U.S. Forest Service.

This collection contains aerial photograph prints and negatives of Idaho, Washington and Montana National forests donated by the U.S. Forest Service taken by the Washington Air National Guard Squadron 116 in 1933- 1936.

Administrative Information

Arrangement

Original order and folder titles were retained, duplicate negatives were discarded if photographic prints existed.

Acquisition Information

The materials in this collection were donated by the U.S. Forest Service in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Some of the copies were paid for by the University of Idaho Library in January 1997. The donation and acquitision was done by Dennis Baird in 1995.
