Biographical Note
A San Francisco native, Myrtle Gaylord worked for the Spokane Press until it ceased publication in 1938. She then wrote a popular daily column in the Spokesman-Review entitled “Glimpses,” which included her local profiles, humorous anecdotes, and folksy stories.
Content Description
The collection contains manuscripts of an unpublished novel, The Banyon Tree, manuscripts of poetry, her diary, and a few personal letters. The bulk of the collection consists of clippings of her daily columns pasted into books, 1941-1959. There are also some manuscripts of the columns. Her diary, which was not kept with any great regularity, is deeply introspective.
