Historical Note

Arthur B. Foote (1877-1964) was a civil and mining engineer. He worked in Korea in 1901 as a surveyor for the Oriental Consolidated Mining Company and later became assistant superintendent of the company. Foote then worked as the general manager of the North Star Mines until 1937 when he transitioned to consulting.

Collection contains correspondence, including letters to his mother, Mary Hallock Foote; negatives and prints of scenes photographed in Korea; newspaper clippings concerning mining in Korea; a report on North Star Mine; and a copy of a biography by Foote titled “Biography and Some Views on Economics.”
