Biographical Note
Charles Clarence Ward born on November 6, 1867, to Dillis and Sarah Ward in White River Valley in King County, Washington. The Ward family, which included Charles' three sisters Sarah Elizabeth (later Mrs. Edmond Meany), Kate, Maud, Agnes, moved to the Skokomish Indian Reservation and then to Seattle. He attended public school in Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington in 1889 with a civil engineering degree.
Ward began his work creating surveys for the Northern Pacific Railway in 1886-1887, then worked in Eastern Washington on the construction of the Sunnyside Irrigation Canal. He worked in Seattle, Wenatchee, and Billings (Montana), on various projects including: surveys for the War Department, Highline Canal, Billings Bench Canal, Corbett Dam the Wenatchee water system and sewers.
In 1903 he married Harriot Olive in Chelan, WA. Together they had six children, four of which survived childhood. He died August 25, 1962.
