Historical Note
Dick Van Dyke (b. 1925) was born in West Plains, Missouri, and grew up in Danville, Illinois. He was an Emmy-Award winning American actor of film, stage and screen. A comedian and a dancer, he was known for his starring roles in the movies "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and in the television shows "The Dick Van Dyke show" and "Diagnosis: Murder."
Content Description
The collection contains videotape recordings, in various formats, of the TV series “Van Dyke and Company” (1976) and several TV specials starring Van Dyke, including “Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman” (1969) and “Dick Van Dyke Meets Bill Cosby” (1970), as well as “MacLeish and the Rented Kid” (1975), an unsold pilot starring Van Dyke. Also included are scripts from “Van Dyke and Company,” “Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman,” “Dick Van Dyke Meets Bill Cosby,” two TV specials starring Van Dyke, and the movies “Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N.” (1965) and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (1967), both of which starred Van Dyke.
Also included in the collection are recordings of episodes from TV series (e.g., “Danger” (1950-1955), “The Jane Froman Show” (1952-1955), “The Julius La Rosa Show” (1955-1957), “The Magnavox Theatre” (1950), “Omnibus” (1952-1961), “Studio One” (1948-1958), and “Suspense” (1949-1954) ) directed by Byron Paul (who directed “Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N.” and was an executive producer on “Van Dyke and Company” and “Dick Van Dyke and the Other Woman”), as well as scripts for three TV movies that Paul directed for “The Magical World of Disney.”
