Historical Note
Omer C. Lunsford retired as an assistant vice president of American Oil Company (formerly Standard Oil of Indiana; now Amoco) in 1970. He served in various capacities with Standard Oil from 1924 to 1943, including as warehouse clerk, substation inspector and auditor, and as special representative of the assistant vice president in charge of personnel.
He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, assigned to procurement, liaison, and contract negotiations with such companies as U.S. Steel, General Motors, Westinghouse, etc.
He rejoined Standard Oil in 1946 as accounting manager and then, in 1952, joined the company’s sales department as an administrator until 1959. He next served as a regional manager for American Oil Company (Standard Oil Company) in Milwaukee and then New York until 1964.
From 1964 to 1965, he served in the International Executive Service Corps under David Rockefeller. Next he served for three years as American Oil’s manager of information services and computer sciences and director for cost control. He went on to become assistant vice president of American Oil, served another short time with the Executive Service Corps, and, after retiring from American Oil, served as executive vice president of the Soil Enrichment Materials Corporation.

The collection contains materials pertaining to American Oil Company (Standard Oil Company of Indiana), including annual reports (1939-1968), financial statements (1945-1969), management meetings (1950-1968), memoranda (1957-1970), notice of stockholder meetings (1943-1970), periodicals (1938-1957), presentations, press releases (1946-1970), special studies, speeches by Lunsford and others (1957-1958), and miscellaneous notes, programs, and clippings. There are also autobiographical materials (1926-1966) and Lunsford's correspondence (1932-1970).
