Historical Note

Milton Krieger retired from Western Washington University's Political Science Department in 2003. As a long-term and avid jazz fan, he began researching the history of the local jazz scene in Whatcom County, Washington. Krieger's resulting work, "The Less Subdued Excitement: A Century of Jazz in Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington" was published by Whatcom County Historical Society in 2012.

This collection comprises a body of research materials gathered and created by Milton Krieger in researching and writing his 2012 book, "The less subdued excitement: a century of jazz in Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington. The collection contains Krieger's research files relating to people, places, organizations, programs and events, in additional to audio and audio-visual recordings and posters.
