Historical Note
Madolin Shorey Cervantes was a playwright and theater director. She studied in Uruguay and Argentina in 1947-1948, then attended the University of Wyoming, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. She moved to New York City and was an apprentice director for "The Deputy," a controversial play by Rolf Hochhuth that was staged on Broadway in 1964. Cervantes wrote a number of play scripts in the 1950s and 1960s.
Content Description
The collection contains play manuscripts by Madolin Cervantes, as well as newspaper clippings about the New York staging of "The Deputy" and the controversy aroused by the play. Also included are notebooks from Cervantes' studies in South America.
