- George Emery Stewart, Jr. (1906-1990) was a Utah historian whose Tales from Indian Country: Authentic stories and legends from the great Uintah Basin was published posthumously in 1997. This collection contains digital only images from various locations throughout Utah including cliff dwellings, canyons, creeks and rivers, and towns dating from the 1960s and 1970s.

Biographical Note
George Emery Stewart, Jr. was born on November 11, 1906 in Vernal, Utah to George Emery and Nancy Elizabeth Birchell Stewart. He married Elva Gagon on August 10, 1929 in Rockville, Maryland. Together, the two had three daughters. Stewart attended schools in Myton, Westminster, the University of Utah, and graduated from the George Washington Law School. For several years, he served as the Duchesne County Attorney. Stewart was a served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Utah Historical Society and the Western States Historical Society. Stewart died on March 19, 1990. After his death, Stewart's family compiled his writings on Utah history into Tales from Indian Country: Authentic stories and legends from the great Uintah Basin, which was published posthumously in 1997. Content Description
The George E. Stewart digital photograph collection consists of 139 digital only items. The items are scans of two boxes of color and black-and-white photographs dating from the 1960s and 1970s taken by George E. Stewart and depicting landscapes, ranch building remains, cliff dwellings, and petroglyphs. The collection also contains scans of copy prints depicting Utah history collected by Stewart during the course of his historical research.
