Historical Note
Harry Lyle Burns is the great-grandson of George Spangle. He went to grade school in Spangle, Washington and then spent two years at Cheney State Normal School. Burns then taught grade school at Deer Park, Washington prior to going to Washington State college. Burns earned his Bachelor in Arts in Education in 1932, taught in Preston, Washington in 1932-1934, and was high school principal at LaCrosse from 1934-1948. Burns was the superintendent and grade school principal at Steptoe, Washington. Upon the Steptoe high school closure in 1973, he retired.
Content Description
The Harry Lyle Burns papers contains photos of classes and sports teams from LaCrosse, Preston, Steptoe, and Spangle. This collection also includes an autobiography and program for the Steptoe high school 25 year reunion for the Class of 1912, and two annuals titled The Tom Tom from Steptoe high school.
