Content Description
This collection consists primarily of personal papers relating to Dr. Hardwick's participation as a panelist at various medical conventions between 1958 and 1969. The collection also includes a short biography of Dr. Hardwick's life written by his daughter, Mary Hardwick Bolton, in 2022. The biography reproduces several newspaper articles about Hardwick which are not available elsewhere in the collection. The convention files include correspondence with the organizations setting up the panels, Dr. Hardwick's prepared remarks, meeting programs, and questions Dr. Hardwick wrote for other doctors.
The Clifford Emerson Hardwick Papers provide insight into the nature of the medical profession in the mid-20th century. The topics covered by Hardwick in his panel presentations illustrate which issues and advancements were most pressing in the field of gastroenterology from the late 1950s through the end of the 1960s. This collection also provides context for the nature of professional development practices in medicine at the time through correspondence regarding the organization of medical conferences.
