Biographical Note

Nancy Jean Temple was born in King County, Washington state, on August 5th, 1918 to Cecil Oliver Temple, an electrician, and Miriam A. Temple (nee Bradley), a music teacher. A younger brother, Robert "Bob" Henry Temple, was born a few years later. Nancy Jean attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle, where as a student she managed the girls baseball team. She attended the University of Washington in 1937 and 1938, where she was a P.E. Club pledge, a Kappa Delta pledge, and a standing member of the scholarship committee of the University of Washington A.W.S. In the 1940 U.S. Census, she was no longer attending university but was working full time as a stenographer. The same census indicated Bob Temple worked as a “Kodak repairman,” and some of the photos in the collection identify Bob as the photographer. Nancy Jean may have married in February 1943, as later records indicate she is registered as Nancy J. Eckert. She died on October 11th, 1999 in Seattle, Washington.

The album also includes a pamphlet and photos of the Wreckage Zoo in Ocean Park, WA; the Kalakala , a local Seattle ferry; and a photo of Johannes Brahm’s funeral procession made by Mr. S. Hamilton Nussbaum, a student of the pianist Leschetizky of Vienna with a letter explaining the context of the photograph; and Bob Temple working in a photo lab.
