Biographical Note

Justin Call Stewart (1912-1992) was born in Provo, Utah to Esther Call and John Riggs Stewart. He was educated in Salt Lake, graduating from the University of Utah in 1933. He received his M.A. from Teacher's College in Columbia, New York, in 1935. He married Martha Ross that same year and the couple subsequently had four children.

During his career, Stewart was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 1949. Stewart earned a law degree from the University of Utah and was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 1960. As a Utah attorney, Stewart was active in organizations for senior citizens. From 1979 to 1983, he served as a volunteer lawyer for the Senior Law Center of the Utah Legal Service Corporation. He served as Speaker of the House in the Utah Seniors' Legislature from 1982 to 1984. He also was the founder and president of the nonpartisan Utah Seniors Political Action Committee.

The Stewart Family also owned a large amount of land in Provo Canyon that largely contributed to the Stewart Family Trust. A portion of the land was sold to Robert Redford in the 1960s which now forms the Sundance Corporation. Justin Stewart took part in much of the legal documentation for the sale, development, and management of the land.

Justin Stewart died on June 14, 1992.
