Biographical Note

Miles Poindexter came to Spokane in 1897 to practice law. In 1904 he was elected Superior Court judge and in 1911 to the U.S. Senate as a Republican. Poindexter was one of the foremost opponents of the Unites States entry into the League of Nations in 1919. An unsuccessful attempt for Senate office in 1927 marked the end of his active political career.

Content Description

The collection consists of clippings and some fragmentary correspondence relating to Poindexter’s Senate race, 1909-1910. Poindexter’s interest in Andean culture is revealed in several unpublished manuscripts for books and articles. Additional manuscripts relate to political topics. Also included are miscellaneous business and real estate records and family genealogical material. The collection also includes fragmentary financial records, correspondence, and memorabilia relating to Gale A. Poindexter, Miles Poindexter’s son.
