Biographical NoteReturn to Top

William Dudley Pelley (1890-1965) was a writer and publisher based out of Asheville, NC. Pelley founded the Silver Shirt political organization in 1933 and wrote extensively about Soulcraft philosophy and Christianity. The Silver Shirts (later renamed the Silver Legion, and still later the Silver Shirt Legion) operated in Oregon, California, and Washington during the 1930s. Other organizations founded by Pelley include the League of Liberation, Galahad College, and the League for Christian Economics. Pelley ran for United States president in 1936.
