Helen Herrick Papers, 1860-1998

This series contains materials regarding child education from the 1950s to 1970s. Materials include Helen Herrick's college education work as a student in California, academic journal and newspaper articles on education and child care issues, and school district newsletters and documents from Herrick's decades long work as an educator. Many folders contain information into special education. the education materials provide insight into views and education procedures from this time period as including insight into the early views and struggles of special education.

This series contains Helen Herrick writings. Herrick spent much time writing short stories, writing on California history, and other interests. She tried on numerous occasions to publish her work without success, but eventually published a book called "Tales of an Old Horsetrader" about the life of Leroy Daniels. Daniels was born in Iowa in 1882 and shines a light on life in the U.S. in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Helen Herrick's papers indicate a desire to be informed on many of the issues impacting women during this time, including issues of women's rights. This series contains newspaper and magazine articles on topics including birth control, abortion, divorce, and women's employment, among many others.
