Historical Note

The 21 Club opened for business on January 1, 1930, in New York City and became one of the most famous speakeasies during the Prohibition Era. The architecture is known for such clandestine features as camouflaged doors, invisible chutes, and revolving bars. The artwork that hangs on its walls today is said to have been accepted as payment for overdue bar tabs during the Great Depression, and the ceilings are covered in donated toys and sports memorabilia.
