Historical Note

Stephen D. Youngkin was a biographer of Peter Lorre. He wrote “The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre” and co-wrote “The Films of Peter Lorre.”

Historical Note

Peter Lorre was an actor best known for being type-cast as a villain in movies such as "Casablanca" (1942), "Mad Love" (1935), "M" (1931), and "The Maltese Falcon" (1941). Born in Austria-Hungary in 1904, Lorre began his acting career on the stage in Vienna before moving to Berlin where he saw the rise of Hitler’s Germany. Lorre came to the United States in the mid-1930s and began a successful acting career in Hollywood.
