Historical Note

Kurt Glaser (1914-1993) was an employee of the U. S. Government and a professor of political science. After earning a PhD from Harvard in 1941, he spent twelve years in Washington, D.C., working for the Social Security Board and the Department of Agriculture. From 1946 to 1950, Glaser worked for the Military Government in Germany and as a government affairs officer with the U. S. High Command. After two years as a journalist in Munich, he returned to the United States and pursued a career in academia. He was a professor at Southern Illinois from 1959 to 1983 and at Tankang University in Taiwan from 1983 to 1989.

Content Description

The Kurt Glaser collection contains books, monographs, government documents, brochures, and pamphlets, as well as magazines, newsletters, bulletins, journals, newspapers, and government publications that Glaser collected. Also included are files, writings by Glaser and others, lecture notes for classes that Glaser taught, materials from various conferences attended by him, and reproductions of Chinese-language scrolls (the originals are housed in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan).
