Biographical Note

Chandler Robbins was a chaplain in Continental Army and a forerunner of Unitarianism. His son, Samuel Prince Robbins, rejoined Presbyterianism and moved to Marrietta, Ohio, 1806-1823.

Correspondence, 1791-1853; sermon books, 1806-1823; Civil War documents and letters, 1861-1863. Also includes transcripts of correspondence, sermons, biographies and a will from various members of the Robbins family.

Papers of a clerical family descended from Reverend Chandler Robbins (1739-99) of Plymouth, Massachusetts, consisting of correspondence among members of the family concerning daily life in New England, frontier and pioneer life in Ohio, and student life at the Andover Theological Seminary in the 1830s. Includes sermons of Reverend Samuel Prince Robbins, a missionary to Siam, and Civil War documents of Captain Samuel Robbins Bingham, who commanded a Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment; 1791-1853.

    Scope and Content: Correspondence, 1791-1853; sermon books, 1806-1823; Civil War documents and letters, 1861-1863.
