Historical Note

Dan Starr (1915-2014) was the publisher of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer from 1964 until his retirement in 1975. Before his time as publisher, he had a lengthy career as an advertising salesman at locations including the Washington Post, Fisher Broadcasting, and King-TV.

Content Description

The collection primarily consists of Henry Broderick publications inscribed to Dan Starr. Broderick was an early Seattle realtor who was also heavily active in civic affairs. He produced an annual Christmas pamphlet covering a variety of topics including early Seattle history and family stories. Many of the publications were printed by Frank McCaffrey's Dogwood Press. The collection also includes a photograph of Starr as a boy printed on cardstock.

Acquisition Information

The collection was donated to the library in 2017 by Dan Starr's son, David Starr.

Processing Note

Some materials in the collection were removed due to the presence of active mold. All items removed are available through additional copies in the library's collection or via archival collections at the University of Washington or Whitman College. Materials with inactive mold were cleaned and retained. See note in collection file for additional information.
